The Short story:  The Roanoke College men's basketball team was defeated 84-79 by Wesleyan University (Conn.) in an early-season top 20 battle at the Governor's Challenge.

Roanoke opened the season ranked No. 10 by D3hoops.com, with the Cardinals coming in at No. 13.

How it happened:  
*The Maroons took a 23-6 lead just seven minutes into the game and extended the advantage to 46-24 with 4:38 left in the half. Wesleyan cut the edge to 50-38 at halftime.
*RC led by as many as 17 early in the second half, but a big Wesleyan rally tied the game at 71 all with under a minute to play. Jackson Cormier drilled a three-pointer with 30 seconds left on the game clock, Maroon senior Marcus Morgan made it a one-point game with a layup with nine seconds left, but the Cardinals iced the game at the free-throw line.

Inside the numbers:
*Morgan wasn't far off from a triple double, compiling 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
*Patrick Clevenger netted a team-best 15 points and grabbed five boards.
*Gavin O'Malley posted 13 points and six rebounds.
*Caleb Franze scored 10 points and Jackson Bell had nine points and four assists.
*Zach Wolinksi scored a game-high 23 points for Wesleyan (2-1).
