The Short story: The Roanoke College football team held a lead just before halftime, but Hampden-Sydney College pulled away for a 35-10 victory Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest. The Tigers received votes in this week's D3football.com top 25 poll and improves to 6-1 on the season and 4-1 in league play.

How it happened:
*Roanoke's defense came up with a big stand on the first drive of the game, stopping H-SC from fourth and two from the RC five-yard line. Â
*After a scoreless first quarter,
Ethan Cyr connected on a 35-yard field goal at 8:55 of the second period to give Roanoke a 3-0 edge. The Maroons could have held a bigger lead but didn't convert on two other first-half field goal attempts.
*The Tigers scored a touchdown just before the half to take a 7-3 lead into intermission.
*Sido Carter tossed two TD passes in the third period to give H-SC a 21-3 cushion.
*On a fourth and six deep in Tiger territory,
Kam Hill scrambled for 16 yards and into the end zone to cut the lead to 21-10 early in the fourth quarter.

Javier Waldron stopped a H-SC scoring threat late with his ODAC-leading sixth interception of the season.
Inside the numbers:

Charlie Davis made 21 tackles for the Maroons, including 11 solos and one tackle for loss.

Landon Altizer had 13 tackles while
Lane Shoemaker had 11.
Tandom Smith posted nine stops.

Kam Hill was 15-28 passing for 164 yards.

KJ Bratton had two carries for 69 yards, including a 65-yard gain.

Polo Hill carried 12 times for 54 yards.
*Terry Hicks had 27 carries for 136 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers. Sido completed 17-of-25 passes for 330 yards and one touchdown.
*Two of the Maroons' three losses on the season are against teams receiving votes in the D3football.com Top 25 poll.
