Field hockey soars above Virginia Weselyan with 2-0 victory

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College field hockey team scored goals in both the first and fourth periods to soar above Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC play on Saturday.

How It Happened 

  • With less than two minutes left in the first quarter, Corinne Orlando played a ball into the arc for Kaitlyn Robertson. She then swept it past a defender and just past the stick of the goalie to give RC the lead. 

  • The Maroons earned themselves a corner five minutes into the fourth period. The ball was inserted to Orlando who lifted it towards the goal. The Virginia Wesleyan goalie then knocked it down and Robertson finished it off at the back post. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Robertson tallied the first multi-goal game of her career in the contest. 

  • Maddy Holmes and Orlando joined Robertson in registering two shots each in the game. 

  • Robertson, Holmes, and Orlando are now tied for the team lead in goals with five each. 

  • Orlando continues to pace the squad in assists with five on the season. 

  • The sides were tied in the game in shots, 8-8, and penalty corners, 5-5. Roanoke did have the edge in shots on goal, 5-3. 

  • Chloe Miller played all 60 minutes in net for RC and made three saves. 

Up Next 
The Maroons hit the road for their final two games of the regular season. They start with Lynchburg on Wednesday (Oct. 29) before going to Randolph-Macon on Saturday (Nov. 1).
