Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's volleyball bounces back to go 2-0 on Saturday at Wittenberg Kickoff

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Roanoke College men's volleyball squad bounced back on Day 2 of the Wittenberg Kickoff Classic to sweep their matches. They won 3-2 against Thiel in the morning and 3-1 against Concordia Chicago in the afternoon.

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • After dropping the first set, RC came back to win the next two before Thiel forced a fifth. The Maroons took the fifth set 15-11. 

  • Sophomore Gabe Fabbro did most of the setup work in the match, racking up 39 assists. 

  • Rutkowski and Cummins also combined for eight of the team's nine service aces.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • Roanoke opened with a set win 26-24 but dropped another tight contest in the second set. The Maroons didn't falter and took the next two to complete the sweep on the day. 

  • RC was efficient in the third set, hitting .619 and going 15-16 on the sideout. 

  • Rutkowski added another 18 kills while Cummins and Cade Kinne had 10 a piece. 

  • Dominic Wheaton was the most efficient attacker of the match, totaling nine kills and a .438 hitting percentage. 

  • Fabbro took the bulk of the assist work yet again, totaling 42 in the match. His total is a new single game career high for Fabbro, beating his previous high which was set in the earlier game of the day. 

  • Noble led in digs yet again with 13 but Cummins and CJ Kingston joined him in the double-digits club with 10 each. 

Up Next 
Roanoke takes a trip to Pennsylvania next weekend in which they will face Penn State Altoona on Friday (Jan. 17) at 6:00pm before travelling to Lancaster on Saturday (Jan. 18) to face Widener and Lancaster Bible.
