SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College men's soccer team grabbed their first victory of the season against the Catholic University of America on Friday night by a score of 3-2.

Key Moment 

• Senior Michael Ramsey netted his second goal of the game in the 73rd minute to keep the Maroons on top.  

How It Happened 

• Ramsey opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a header off a rebound from Will Fatzinger's shot on goal.  

• Sophomore Slate Danforth doubled the lead in the 46th on a brilliant piece of finishing with his left foot into the bottom right corner.  

• Catholic then scored on a penalty kick before Ramsey slotted home his second goal after beating a defender in the box and putting the ball into the lower corner. 

• Catholic rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 78th minute.  

Notes and Notables 

• Ramsey's brace was the first multiple goal game of his career. The pair of goals brought his career total to seven. 

• Danforth's goal was the third of his young career. Fatzinger's assist was the second in his time with the Maroons. 

• Roanoke had the only two corners of the game. 

• RC also tallied more shots on goal than the Cardinals by a margin of 7-4. 

• Goalkeeper Luca Gustafson made two saves on the night.

Roanoke makes their way down to Atlanta next weekend to compete in the Oglethorpe Tournament. They will take on the hosts, Oglethorpe, on Friday (Sep. 6) at 5:30 pm and Emory on Sunday (Sep. 8) at 11:00 am.
