Maroons Overwhelm Shenandoah in ODAC Semifinal Matchup

THE GAME FACTS
Score: Roanoke 14, Shenandoah 3
Location: Salem, Va.

The Short Story: The second-seeded and 13th-ranked Roanoke women's lacrosse team cruised past the third-seeded and 22nd-ranked Hornets 14-3 in a conference semifinal contest at Kerr Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons tallied the first nine goals of the game, outscoring SU 6-0 in the first quarter and grabbing the first three markers of the second stanza. Grace Koutouzis was involved in six of those nine goals, scoring three and assisting on three others, while Libby Bowman also notched a hat trick during the opening spurt.
  • The Hornets finally got on the board on a goal from Gabriella Raspanti with 5:06 remaining in the second period. That keyed a 3-1 stretch for Shenandoah to close out the first half, as the Maroons saw their lead trimmed to 10-3 by the break.
  • But the Roanoke defense was superb after halftime, shutting out the Hornets across the final two quarters. Kyleigh Chickering made seven saves in the second half to keep the SU attack at bay.
  • At the other end, Kate Loughran tacked on two third-quarter goals as the Maroons padded the lead even further.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Koutouzis finished the afternoon with seven points, registering three goals and four assists. Bowman notched five markers, and Loughran bagged a hat trick.
  • Maddie McDonald added two goals and four draw controls, and Sydney Harrison contributed one goal and three draw controls.
  • Kyleigh Chickering totaled 12 saves, producing an exceptional .800 save percentage for the game, while Sophia Chickering won six draw controls.
  • Raspanti, Ainsley Buckner and Amy Bell scored the Shenandoah goals, and Madison Perry recorded 10 saves.
  • Roanoke outshot the Hornets 37-18 and held an overall 15-5 advantage on the draw circle.
