The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team had an early lead Friday in the first game of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Finals, but top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan University rallied for a 6-3 victory.
The same two teams will squad off Saturday in game two of the best of three series at 1:30 p.m. If the third-seeded Maroons win game two and even the series, the rubber match is slated for 4 p.m.
How it happened:

Madison Courts blasted a two-run home run to centerfield in the second to put RC ahead 2-0. VWU cut the advantage to 2-1 with a run in the bottom half of the inning.

Heather McQueeney scored on a wild pitch in the third but the Marlins countered with a run in their half of the frame.
*Mackenzie Myers hit a two-run triple for Va. Wesleyan in the fourth to put the hosts ahead 4-3 and the Marlins added two insurance runs in the sixth.
Inside the numbers:
*Courts finished 2-3 on the day and McQueeney was 2-4.

Sammie Murphy had a hit and a walk and
Kate Houle and
Adriana Rivera each had hits.
*Emma Adams earned the win in the circle for Va. Wesleyan (34-7), working all seven innings and also delivered an RBI triple. Sarah Prosser went 3-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base.
*The loss breaks a six-game winning streak for Roanoke, now 29-13 on the season.
