The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team swept Ferrum College Thursday 4-2 and 8-0 (5 inn.) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader from the
Botetourt Sports Complex.
The Maroons got excellent pitching in both games. Junior
Maggie McCray took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of game one and battled through some defensive miscues to earn the complete-game win. Junior
Lindsay Gedro had a no hitter of her own into the fifth inning of the nightcap, throwing a complete-game shutout.

How it happened (Game 1):

Madison Courts doubled in the first to bring home a run and the Maroons added a run in the second on a double steal attempt.
*Roanoke loaded the bases in the fourth and
Heather McQueeney ripped a single up the middle to score two. Â
*Ferrum loaded the bases in the sixth inning and scored two on a fielder's choice. The Panthers again loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but McCray worked out of the jam to earn the win.
Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*McCray gave up just two hits, two walks and two unearned runs while striking out 11.
*Courts,
Ally Brown and
Lilly Burns each had two hits while
Sammie Murphy had a hit and a walk.
*Erika Treusch walked twice for Ferrum.
How it happened (Game 2):
*
Kate Houle opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run home run and
Shaniya Lewis followed with a solo homer in the third to put RC up 3-0.
*
Leah Butts doubled in the fourth to score another run and the Maroons plated four in the fifth for a walk-off win via the run-rule. Houle had a two-run double and Burns ended the game with a two-run single.
Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*Houle finished 2-3 with two runs and four RBI.
*Lewis, Butts and
Lauren Hoffman were each 2-2 and Courts again had two hits.
*Gedro allowed just two infield singles and one walk, striking out six.
Up Next:
