THE GAME FACTS

The Short Story: No. 14 Roanoke put together a monster first quarter and never looked back in rolling to a 21-1 road victory against Averett.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons outscored the Cougars 10-0 in the opening stanza. Maddie McDonald notched three of RC's first six goals, and Kate Loughran also scored twice in the period.
  • Roanoke added four more unanswered tallies to its lead in the second quarter, going into halftime ahead 14-0. The Maroons blanked Averett again in the third frame, pushing their advantage to 19-0.
  • The Cougars finally got on the board early in the fourth quarter, but markers from Elyse Cosgrave and Soria Ebert provided the final margin.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • McDonald wrapped up the game with four goals and one assist, while Raegan Becker notched three goals and two assists. Loughran also tallied five points, finishing with two goals and three assists.
  • Tiernan Connor recorded two goals and one assist, while Grace Koutouzis posted one goal and two helpers. Zoe Blair scored twice, and the Maroons got one goal and one assist apiece from Ebert, Libby Bowman and Sarah Brisson.
  • Sophia Chickering set a new career standard with 19 draw controls, leading RC to an overall 23-3 advantage on the circle. Addison Schmidt paced the Maroons' defense with four caused turnovers.
  • Faith Bowlin scored the lone Averett goal and picked up two draw controls.
  • Roanoke registered a 37-7 shot advantage and limited the Cougars to an 8-of-19 mark on clears. The Maroons also converted on 6-of-7 attempts from the 8-meter arc.
