Weather Can't Slow Streaking Maroons

The Basics
Score: Roanoke 5, Guilford 3
Records: Maroons 11-11 / 7-1 ODAC, Quakers 9-15 / 2-6 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke baseball team brought a four-game Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win streak into a Tuesday conference matchup with Guilford. After an hour and 40-minute weather delay the Maroons would strike first with a run in the bottom of the third. After the Quakers tied the game, Roanoke scored four more times and held on for the 5-3 conference win, their fifth in a row.

Highlights:
  • With the scored tied at 1-1, Cayden Freels sent a drive to the left centerfield gap to plate Hayden Giordano. After reaching third, Freels scored on a bunt single by Nate Prince to open up a 2-run advantage.
  • Guilford would answer to cut the lead in half before a Tucker Schiavoni sacrifice fly plated Corey Coogan made it 4-2.
  • One inning later Prince added another RBI, this time a single to left would send Giordano home to add to the lead.
  • Guilford scored once in the ninth, but Anthony Sullivan recorded the final outs to register his first save of the season.
  • Jackson Murphy got the start but after two innings of work, did not return after the 100-minute weather stoppage. Brae Farrell worked five and a third giving up a pair of runs.
  • Jonny Wall was 2-2 with Giordano and Prince combing to go 4-8 with two runs and a pair of RBI.
