Dickinson takes two from Roanoke Baseball

The Game Facts:
Scores: Dickinson 9, Roanoke, 2; Dickinson 16, Roanoke 4
Location: Salem, Va.

The Short story: The Roanoke College baseball team was swept Saturday by Dickinson College 9-2 and 16-4 in a non-conference doubleheader.

How it happened:
*Parker Stallard opened the scoring in the opener, drilling a home run in the second inning to put RC ahead 1-0. Dickinson countered with four runs in the top of the third. Hayden Giordano doubled in the third to cut the lead to 4-2 but the Red Devils scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and added two insurance runs in the ninth.
*Tucker Schiavoni singled to bring in Justyn Steens to give Roanoke a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap. Dickinson scored two in the fourth but Roanoke tied the game on a Nate Chown triple in the bottom of the frame. Dickinson scored six runs in the eighth inning of the nightcap and seven in the ninth to pull away.

Inside the numbers:
*Steens was 3-4 in game one with a stolen base. Corey Coogan had a hit and a walk.
*Matt Torres homered and had three RBI for Dickinson in game one.
*Jonny Wall had two hits for Roanoke in game two. Steens, Schiavoni and Coogan each had a hit and a walk.
*Wes Hellings was effective in five innings on the hill, striking out eight while allowing four hits, three walks and two earned runs.
