Ibanzi makes the difference against Guilford in 1-0 win

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Roanoke College men's soccer team grabbed their first road victory of the season in a 1-0 game against the Guilford College Quakers on Wednesday night.

Key Moment 

  • Pacific Ibanzi netted his first goal as a Maroon in the second half to give RC the win. 

How It Happened 

  • The Maroons opened the scoring in the 71st minute off a free kick. Slate Danforth drew a foul just outside the box on a breakaway. Hugo Berg then took the free kick which hit the near post and ricocheted straight to the feet of Pacific Ibanzi. Ibanzi then had a wide-open goal and buried it into the lower right corner. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Berg's assist was his first point of the season and his career.
  • Carter Laatsch led the way in the shots category, tallying three on the night. Berg, Peyton Mancini, Slate Danforth, and Carlos Lomena also recorded multiple shots in the game. 
  • RC outshot Guilford 18-9 with the shots on target being 11-1. 

  • 71% of the Maroons' possession in the game was in their attacking half. 

  • Luca Gustafson only needed to make one save between the pipes for the Maroons.
