SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The Roanoke College field hockey team picked up an ODAC victory on Saturday with a 4-0 win at Sweet Briar.

• The Maroons tallied two in the first and the third periods to take a firm hold on the game. 

How It Happened 

• Grace Vernarelli opened the scoring in the first period after receiving the ball in the middle of the shooting arc and turning her defender. 

• Vernarelli doubled the tally less than five minutes later off a fee from Lindsey Keyes. She one-timed the shot for her second goal of the match. 

• After a scoreless second period, the Maroons scored just a few minutes after halftime from a corner. Vernarelli found Tess Taloumis on the left side for the third tally. 

• Taloumis scored again off a corner play just two minutes later. Vernarelli put one up in the air and found Taloumis just in front of the cage. 

Notes and Notables 

• This was Vernarelli's third multi-goal game of the season. She now has 12 tallies as well as five assists on the season. 

• Meanwhile, this was Taloumis' first multi-goal game of her career. 

• Keyes' assist was her second of the year. 

• In addition to Vernarelli and Taloumis, Keyes, Jessie Besselaar, Mary Wisher, Peyton Bradford, Elyse Cosgrave, and Krista DeModna registered stops. 

• Roanoke led in shots 21-8 and penalty corners 5-3. 

• Goalkeeper Madison Wingerter made two saves in the game.

The Maroons return home next week and are set to take on Washington & Lee at 2:30 pm on Wednesday (Oct. 30) as part of the triple-header action happening at Kerr Stadium that day.
