THE GAME FACTS
Score: Washington and Lee 79, Roanoke 71

The Short Story: The Maroons clawed back from a double-digit halftime deficit to take the lead in the second half, but the 12th-ranked Generals prevailed in an ODAC matchup in Lexington.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Washington and Lee assumed an early nine-point lead (16-7) and held a 20-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Generals stretched the margin out to 13 points on multiple occasions in the second period and led 37-26 at the break.
  • Roanoke opened the second half with a 14-0 spurt, pulling ahead 40-37 on a Parker Childress jumper at the 7:20 mark of the third quarter. The game went back-and-forth for the rest of the period, with five additional lead changes before W&L closed the frame up 54-50.
  • The Maroons scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter, and a 3-pointer from Childress gave Roanoke a 58-54 edge with 8:30 remaining.
  • The Generals would counter with a 16-4 stretch, going up 70-62 with just over four minutes to play. The Maroons carved the lead down to two (73-71) on a bucket from Rose Sande at the 1:28 mark, but they could get no closer as W&L held on for the win.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Sande paced Roanoke with 21 points, adding six rebounds and four assists.
  • Madison Nereu notched nine points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Jacquelyn DeJesse and Kate Littlejohn also chipped in nine points apiece.
  • Childress finished with eight points and five assists. Peyton Kirchner recorded seven points, and Ingrid Moraes tallied six points, six rebounds and three assists.
  • Mary Schleusner posted game-highs of 24 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Generals, and Hanna Malik tossed in 14 points. W&L held a 47-32 advantage on the glass, but the Maroons forced 22 turnovers in the game.
