HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cougars grabbed an early 3-0 lead after doubles competition. Shori Nishizoe and Kazuki Fukushima topped Federico Maccari and Zach Kriebel 8-2 at #1, Theodor Garmo and Philipp Bohnenkamp defeated Hardt Lesko and John-Henry Herrington 8-6 at #2, and Sam Egui and Prabjeet Chandhok beat Julio Marques and Jackson Wagner 8-3 at #3.
• The #4 singles match went to a super tiebreak, with Bohnenkamp coming from behind to best Marques 6-7, 6-4, 10-3.
• Averett won in straight sets at the other five singles spots: Nishizoe over Maccari at #1 (6-1, 6-0), Jorge Figueroa against Kriebel at #2 (6-1, 6-3), Chandhok against Lesko at #3 (6-2, 6-1), Egui against Herrington at #5 (6-0, 6-1), and Garmo over Lance Beheler at #6 (6-3, 6-0).
