The Lead: The Roanoke men's lacrosse team led 6-0 after the first quarter en route to a 26-7 win over the Guilford Quakers on Wednesday evening in Greensboro.

  • The Maroons got things started on the right foot (and possibly left) against Guilford on Wednesday. Roanoke jumped out to a 6-0 lead after just 15 minutes, with six different Maroons finding the back of the cage. Dominic Cuomo, Luke Kammerman, Aidan Sullivan, Matthew Albertson, Wyatt Whitlow (man-up), and Anthony Muniz all scored while L. Kammerman, Jay Frye, Cuomo, Julian Kammerman, and Luca Docking all assisted on goals.
  • The scoring continued into the second quarter with another six unanswered goals to start the period. L. Kammerman, Cuomo, Ethan Caldwell, Noah Goad, Muniz, and Docking each helped put the Maroons ahead 12-0 with 8:19 left in the first half. The Quakers would add a single goal before Goad and Frye put the Maroons ahead 14-1 with 4:23 on the clock. A pair of late first-half goals by Guilford saw Roanoke take a 14-3 advantage into halftime.
  • The Maroons much like the opening two quarters, scoring the first five goals of the half with three on man-up opportunities. After a pair of Quaker goals saw the Roanoke lead cut down to 19-5, the Maroons got a man-down goal from Noah Bell and an unassisted goal from Quinn Evans, with 20 seconds left in the period, to put their lead back to 16 at 21-5.
  • Just like the third, the Maroons did more damage for the fourth straight period, they scored at least the first five goals of the quarter. Jack Savoie (2x), Cuomo (man-up), Riley Martin, and Connor Milne helped Roanoke go up 26-5. The Quakers scored two goals in the final 90 seconds, but it was not enough as the Maroons finished with the 26-7 win.
  • Cuomo and L. Kammerman tied for the game-high four goals with each adding an assist. 16 different Maroons scored against Guilford while 11 different players assisted on a goal.
  • In addition to a goal and two assists, Frye led Roanoke with seven ground balls while adding in a pair of caused turnovers. Weston Hammond was also a stalwart on the defensive side of the field with six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Alex Feuer improved to 5-1 on the season making five saves while playing the first half. In total, the Maroons made 11 saves.
  • The Maroons had just 15 turnovers in the game, while Guilford had 35, with 19 being forced by a Maroon. Roanoke also had the advantage in ground balls (54-21), successful clears (26-17), faceoff wins (20-16), man-up goals (6-2), and total shots (72-30).

Next Up:

  • Roanoke is back at home on Saturday, April 1 when they take on Shenandoah at Kerr Stadium. Game time with the Hornets is scheduled for 2 p.m.
  • Prior to the game, the Maroons will honor their nine seniors as part of a Senior Day ceremony.
