The Short Story: The Roanoke women's tennis team picked up a 6-3 road victory over the Quakers in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Halle Fernstrum and Julia Bassett defeated Ashley Belnap and Jolie Nhouyvanisvong 8-2 at #1 doubles, while Guilford's Hannah Pardue and Nya Reed topped Lia Streibich and Victoria Rios 8-5 at the #2 spot.
- The top three singles matches all went to a super tiebreak. Pardue bested Fernstrum 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 at #1, while Belnap outlasted Streibich 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 at #2. But Bassett picked up a point for the Maroons at #3, overcoming Nhouyvanisvong 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.
- Roanoke clinched the match with convincing victories at #4 and #5 singles. Rios downed Reed 6-1, 6-0 at #4, and Zane Maiden swept Yasmine Elabdellaoui 6-0, 6-0 at #5.
- The Maroons won by forfeit at #3 doubles and #6 singles.
