The Short Story: The Maroons took down Hollins 7-2 to pick up their first conference victory of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Roanoke grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Jessica Willebeek-LeMair and Millie Shaw defeated Halle Fernstrum and Julia Bassett 8-4 at the top spot. But Lia Streibich and Victoria Rios won 8-2 over Charlie Miller and Peyton Jones at #2, and Zane Maiden and Emma Johnson edged Carlia Kearney and Mei Shalaby 8-7 (9-7) at #3.
- The Maroons claimed the match win with victories at the #3, 4, and 5 singles slots. Bassett rolled past Jones 6-0, 6-1 at #3, Rios dispatched Miller by an identical 6-0, 6-1 scoreline at #4, and Maiden picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kearney at #5.
- Streibich defeated Shaw 6-2, 6-3 at #2 singles, and Maddie Morrell earned a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win over Shalaby at #6.
- Hollins' lone singles point came in the top flight, where Willebeek-LeMair fended off Fernstrum 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
