The Short Story:  The Roanoke men's basketball team returned home for a midweek ODAC contest with the No. 3 ranked team in the country, according to the NABC, as the Guilford Quakers paid a visit to the Cregger Center. A first half run by the visitors saw them hold on for the 12-point win over the Maroons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Maroons kept the game close throughout most of the first half with the Quakers holding a slim 19-17 lead at 8:49 on a Justin Kuthan layup. However, GC would go on a 15-2 run over the next four and half minutes to put themselves ahead by 15 with 4:07 on the clock. Roanoke responded with a 7-0 run of their own to cut the lead down to seven on a Joshua McClary jumper in the paint at 2:53. 
• The Quakers were able to notch themselves a slightly bigger lead at 40-28 at the break.
• GC would push their lead to as many as 16 and 17, however the Maroons would cut it back to as few as eight with 1:08 remaining on a Marcus Morgan layup. A 4-0 run in the final 31 seconds saw the Quakers put their lead back up to 12 and secure the 65-53 win over the Maroons.

BY THE NUMBERS

• McClary led the Maroons against GC with 11 points while Kuthan added 10.
• The Roanoke bench outscored the Quakers bench 21-6.

• The Maroons are back on the road this Sunday, Dec. 10 when they travel to the beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan. Game time with the Marlins is scheduled for 1 p.m.
