The short story: 

The Roanoke College men's basketball team defeated Ohio Wesleyan University 79-75 Saturday in the Championship Game of the Cregger Invitational. Senior center Justin Kuthan was named the tournament MVP after scoring 17 points Saturday, and compiled 43 points and 20 rebounds in his two tournament games.  

How it happened: 

*Ohio Wesleyan started the game strong and opened an 18-11 lead at the 10:56 mark of the first half. The Maroons rallied to tie the score at 26 all after a 15-8 run and the Battling Bishops took a slim 32-30 lead into intermission.
*OWU opened the second half with a three-pointer and Roanoke quickly answered with an 11-2 spurt to go ahead 41-37. The visitors regained the lead 45-43 with 12:21 left, but Roanoke used a 16-8 run to take a 61-51 advantage. Roanoke hit 15 of 17 free throws in the second half while OWU did not make a trip to the free-throw line in the game's final 20 minutes.    

By the numbers: 

*Clayton Gaither netted a team-best 18 points to go with five offensive rebounds and three assists. 

*Zach Rosenthal scored 17 points and added six defensive rebounds while Joshua Morse had 12 points, four rebounds and four assists. 

*Henry Hinkle and Isaac Ward each had 20 points for OWU. 

Next Time: 

The Maroons (6-6) host Averett University in ODAC play Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Cregger Center. 

Sewanee defeated Worcester State in the consolation game 75-69.
