The Short Story: The Roanoke women's volleyball team looked to duplicate their ODAC Tournament magic from a year ago when they faced #4 seed Washington and Lee on Tuesday evening. After winning the first set, it seemed possible. However the Generals would come back and claim the next three sets to claim the victory with a 3-1 over the Maroons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams went back and forth to start the opening set, tying the score up at 6-6. The Generals went on a 6-1 run to put themselves ahead 12-7. However the Maroons went on an 8-2 run of their own to retake the lead at 15-14. The team would trade points and leads the rest of the way with WLU leading 23-21. The Generals would get their set point at 24-23, but the Maroons claimed the final three points for the 26-24 set one win.
- The second set was similar to the first with WLU putting themselves ahead 18-13 midway through the set. Roanoke would pull within two at 21-19 but a 4-1 run by the Generals would level the match at a set a piece.
- WLU would open the third set on a 10-1 run before a 5-0 run by Roanoke cut the lead down to four. The Maroons would bring it even closer with two on two occassions, but the Generals would take the third set on a 7-0 run to take a 2-1 match lead.
- With the Maroons leading 5-4 in the fourth, the Generals used a 9-0 run to take the lead, one they would keep the rest of the set. WLU would add another 5-0 late in the set before taking the final two points for the 3-1 win over the Maroons.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Ryanna Clark led Roanoke with 12 kills on the night with Peyton Kirchner right behind with 11.
- Clark also added four blocks while Kayleigh Eason and Sara Waller each added two.
- Kylee Draper recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 20 assists and 11 digs.
- Aubrey Brown also reach double figure assists with 14.
- Jordan Gorman had the match-high in digs with 26 against the Generals.
