The Short Story:  Two early goals by the Yellow Jackets led to the Roanoke field hockey team dropping a 3-2 ODAC contest in its regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon in Ashland. After all the games for the day were concluded, the Maroons earned the final spot in the 2023 ODAC field hockey tournament next week as the sixth seed.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• RMC got a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes as the Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead on their senior day.
• The score would remain in favor of the hosts 2-0 as the teams would head into the locker room at halftime.
• Just 3:21 into the second half, RMC added a third goal, taking a 3-0 lead.
• Roanoke got on the board at 42:15, thanks to a goal by Grace Vernarelli.
• Maddy Holmes cut the lead down to one at 55:04 but the Yellow Jackets held on for the final five minutes for the 3-2 win over the Maroons.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Madison Wingerter and Kate Hall combined for six saves against RMC in goal.
