The Short Story: The Roanoke College women's volleyball team finished their two-match ODAC road swing on Thursday, dropping a 3-0 match at Bridgewater.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the Maroons leading 11-10 midway through the first set, Bridgewater used a 9-2 to take the lead and pull ahead 21-13. The two teams went back and forth in the final eight points of the set with the Eagles claiming the 1-0 lead at 25-17.
  • Roanoke once again controlled the second set early forcing the Eagles to take a timeout at 12-9. Bridgewater would pull even, and the two teams couldn't get more than a one-point lead in the middle of the set.
  • With the score tied at 19-19, the Eagles used three kills and a service ace to pull away and win the second set, 25-20.
  • Both teams went back and forth early in the third with the Maroons having a 4-1 lead before Bridgewater would tie the score up at 8-8.
  • The Eagles went on a five-point run to force the Maroons to take a timeout at 13-8. It was Roanoke's turn for a run with the Maroons going on a 6-0 run to take the 14-13 lead, thanks in part to kills by Peyton Kirchner, Kennedy Abbott, and Ryanna Clark, coupled with Eagle attack errors.
  • The hosts would go on a run of their own and pull ahead 21-17. After a pair of Maroon points, the Eagles would add one more to push the lead back to three. Kills by Rylee Mayer and Kirchner forced Bridgewater to take a timeout with the Eagle having just a one-point lead.
  • Bridgewater scored the next three points to win the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Kirchner had a match-high 15 kills to go along with a .423 attack percentage.

  • Kennedy Clemmer also led both teams, but for her, it was in digs with 17.
  • The Eagles had the narrow edge as a team in kills 40-37.
