The Lead: The Roanoke College men's and women's tennis teams hosted Bridgewater College at the Elizabeth Campus Tennis Center on a cold and windy, Friday afternoon. The Eagles would lead both matches after the doubles segment and went on to win a pair over the Maroons. The Bridgewater men defeated Roanoke 6-3 while the RC women fell to the Eagles 7-2.

Women's Highlights:

  • Halle Fernstrum teamed with Lucy Collins to win at #1 doubles over the team of Malena Hoover and Rachel Crawford, 8-2.
  • In singles play, Fernstrum secured a second point for the Maroons by posting a 6-2 and 6-4 win at #2.
  • At #4 singles, Julia Bassett took the opener 6-2 but fell in set two, 7-6, by the score of 7-5 in the tiebreaker. Bassett would see Emma Nesselrodt complete the comeback as the Eagles got the point.

Men's Highlights:

  • At #2 doubles the team of Zach Kriebel and Thomas Hodges earned a point with a, hard fought, 8-6 win over Gabe Elder and Mark Gordon. Roanoke came up just short of a second doubles point when the tandem of Matthew Gordon and Noah Hughes outlasted Dalton Capobianco and Hunter Adams, 8-6.
  • Capobianco earned a 6-2 and 6-3 win at #3 singles. At #4 singles, Hodges secured another point when he was awarded the match after Mark Gordon was forced to retire.

What's Next: The women play host to cross-town rival Hollins tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm while the men travel to Shenandoah on Sunday for a rescheduled match with the Hornets.
