Kevin Jackson added four goals and a pair assists as the trio led Roanoke to a 24-9 victory over Berry in the Maroons season opener Sunday in Rome, Ga.
How it Happened- With the score tied at 1-1, the Maroons scored five answered goals, four of which coming from McWillams whose unassisted tally with just under eight minutes to go in the first quarter put RC in front 6-1.
- Back-to-back goals by Berry cut the lead to 6-3, but the Maroons would get goals from Joey Dishaw, IV Stucker and Jackson in the final 2:42 to take a 9-3 lead into the second quarter.
- Goals by Lintner and Will Pilat to open the second stanza made it 11-3 and RC would close the half by scoring three of the final four goals, the last of which coming off the stick of Stucker with just 18 seconds to go, sending RC to the locker room up 14-5.
- Lintner scored three goals in the third quarter to help push the RC lead to 19-8 and the Maroons would tack on five more goals in the final 15 minutes to come away with the win.
- Ian Davies started in the cage for RC and made three saves in the first-half before giving way to Burke McManus who made four stops in the second-half.
- Max Kraus won 19-of-29 face-offs for the Maroons and grabbed a team-best eight groundballs in the process. Dishaw had six groundballs as well as RC held a 40-35 advantage for the game.
- RC outshot Berry 59-31 and converted 14-of-20 clears. The Maroons man-up unit was a perfect 3-for-3 with Jackson, Lintner and Colin Mackenzie all picking up goals.
- Eleven different Maroons scored, 14 recorded a point and eight different players notched multiple points in the victory.
