The Basics

The Lead: Allison White (15) and
Kylah Blackmore (13) combined for 28 kills as Roanoke topped William Peace 3-2 in the Maroons' first match of the 21
st Annual Cougar Classic at Averett University.
How it Happened:- In the opening game, RC was down 18-17 before reeling off five straight points and seven of the next nine points in all to take a 24-19 advantage. William Peace would cut the lead to 24-21, but a kill by White sealed it for the Maroons.
- Game two was tied at 20 apiece before the Pacers scored the last five points to even the match.
- Game three was close as well with the Maroons finding themselves down 16-14. A Logan Graves kill would spark 7-1 run for RC to take command.
- WPU jumped out a 22-14 lead in game four. RC rallied and cut its deficit to 23-19, before dropping the final two points of the game.
- In the deciding game five, RC was up 10-6 before WPU cut it to 10-8. RC then scored five of the final seven points to win the match.

Records: Roanoke, 3-0 / Greensboro, 1-1
The Lead: Roanoke took its second match of the day at the Cougar Classic by defeating Greensboro 3-0 for the Maroons first sweep of the year. Blackmore recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
How it Happened:- With game one tied at 16-16, RC went on a 9-3 run to close the game out.
- Game two saw RC down 19-14. The Maroons went on a 6-0 run and won nine of the next 11 points to take the game.
- Game three was close as well with RC taking a 23-18 lead. The Pride would score four of the next five points to pull within 24-22, but that would be as close as they would get as Sydney Daniel would record a kill to ice the match.
- Daniel led RC with 11 kills, while Blackmore had 10. Jessica Block had 29 assists, Alexandra Martin had 12 digs as well for RC.
