The Lead: Zarriah Pierce and Emma Cook each scored 22 points as Berry held off a late surge by Roanoke and topped the Maroons 84-80 in women's basketball action Friday night.

How it Happened

• Roanoke jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first period only to see Berry chip away and cut the Maroon lead to 18-16 after 10 minutes.
• With the game tied at 31 late in the second period, RC scored six of the final seven points of the half to take a 37-32 lead into the locker room.
• Berry used eight rebounds on the offensive glass to help outscore Roanoke 29-15 in the third period to take a 61-52 lead.
• The Maroons battled back, cutting the Berry lead to 70-68 on a Bridget Holleran bucket with just over three minutes to go in the game.
• That would be as close as RC would get as Pierce and Emma Cook knocked down three-pointers on Berry's next two possessions to extend the lead.
• Cary Beahm scored 22 points for the Maroons, while Holleran finished with 18 for RC and Jamella Foster finished with 14.
