SALEM- The Roanoke College women's soccer team fell to #5 ranked Johns Hopkins 4-0 in its second game of the Roanoke Invitational on Sunday night. The Maroons are now 3-1 on the season, while Johns Hopkins sits at 3-2.
The Blue Jays offense came out strong in the first half scoring their first goal within fifteen minutes of play. Johns Hopkins' Hannah Kronick scored the goal with an assist from Monaco. The Maroons allowed one more Johns Hopkins goal in the half, taking a 2-0 deficit head. Roanoke's goalkeeper, Dvorak had seven saves after the first forty-five minutes, including two back-to-back saves from a penalty kick.
John Hopkins continued to attack throughout the second half scoring their third goal just after twelve minutes. Masse assisted Kronick on the play, as Kronick put the ball in the left side of the net. The Blue Jays scored their final goal of the game by Issy Berkey to put Johns Hopkins ahead 4-0.
Roanoke's
Sarah Dvorak led the Maroons in saves for the game with a total of nine over her 71 minutes of play.
Casey Moore contributed two saves on the night as well.
Emily Whitaker led the offense with the only shot of the game coming in the second half.
Johns Hopkins tabbed twenty-three shots on the night. McKenna led the team with four shots, three being on goal. Morgan and Kronick weren't far behind McKenna with three shots each. Kronick lead the Blue Jay offense with two goals in the contest while Monaco and Masse each had one assist.
The Blue Jays out shot the Maroons twenty-three to one. John Hopkins had three corner kicks on the night, holding the Maroons without a corner attempt.
The Roanoke women's soccer team returns to action at home Wednesday, September 10
th. That game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
