Maroons Top Oglethorpe in Lynchburg Invitational

Box Score LYNCHBURG – The Roanoke College men's soccer team won its second game of the Lynchburg Invitational, defeating Oglethorpe 2-0 on Sunday.  The Maroons are now 3-0-1, while the Stormy Petrels are 2-2 on the season.
 
The Maroons proved to be aggressive on offense in the first half, outshooting the Stormy Petrels 9-4 over the first 45 minutes.  One of Roanoke's first half shots found the back of the net, as Adam Yesbeck scored an unassisted goal at the 31:47 mark.  Yesbeck played the ball from a rebound off the post for his first goal of the season.
 
In the second half, Marc Dinkel scored his third goal of the year at the 50:30 mark.  Roanoke was able to hold off the Petrels for the remainder of the contest, as the Maroons were victorious 2-0 in the non-conference contest.
 
Tyler Carbaugh led the Maroons in total shots, firing off seven during the game.  He was followed by Marc Dinkel and Robby Lentine who each took three shots.  Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes in net, making just one save on one shot faced.
 
Oglethorpe's Seth Prieto and Eyal Schecter each finished the game with three shots, while Angel Salome had the Petrels' lone shot on goal.  Vaughn Moore made 5 saves in the game for Oglethorpe.
 
Roanoke led the contest in shots, taking 17 to the Petrels' 12.  Oglethorpe led in corner kicks (6-3), as well as saves (5-1).
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, September 10th as they play host to Shenandoah University in Roanoke's ODAC opener.  That game is scheduled for a 7:30 PM.
