SALEM - The Roanoke College men's soccer team defeated Greensboro College 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Lynchburg Invitational. The Maroons remain unbeaten with a record of 2-0-1 in the first three games, while the Pride sits with a mark of 1-1.
Both teams could not find the back of the net in the first half, despite Roanoke taking seven shots to Greensboro's four over the first 45 minutes. It took until the 69th minute of the contest for
Tyler Carbaugh to score his second goal of the season, taking an assist from
Robby Lentine. Carbaugh's goal came off of a rebound, giving the Maroons the 1-0 advantage.
The goal from Carbaugh loosened up the Maroons as
Sam Rauf scored the team's second goal, Rauf's second of the season, just six minutes later. Rauf was aided with an assist by
Tim Mahabir, this goal also coming off of a rebound. Roanoke was able to keep the Pride at bay for the remainder of the contest, winning in 90 minutes by the score of 2-0.
Marc Dinkel led the Maroons in shots for the game, firing off four, two of which were on goal.
Tyler Carbaugh and
Robby Lentine followed in shots with three, both with one shot apiece on goal.
Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes in the net, tallying three saves for the Maroons.
Shaun Watt fired off a team high three shots for the Pride, followed by Robbie Barnes and Marco Figueroa with two each. Logan Rohde played 90 minutes between the pipes, blocking six of the Maroons' attempts.
Roanoke led in shots overall,16-10, while the Pride held the advantage in corner kicks 5-4.
The Maroons return to action on Sunday, September 7th as they play Oglethorpe University at 1:30 PM in the Lynchburg Invitational.
