RALEIGH, NC – The Roanoke College volleyball team fell 3-0 (19-25, 25-27, 20-25) to Meredith College in non-conference action on Tuesday evening. The Maroons have a record of 13-5, while the Avenging Angels move their record to 12-5 on the season.
This is the second time that the Maroons have faced off against the Avenging Angels this season, having met them once before in the Maroon Invitational.
In Tuesday's contest, the Maroons hung with the Avenging Angels in the first game, staying within two points for most of the set. With the teams tied 19-19, Meredith pulled away to win the set 25-19. The second set was another tight one, with the Maroons picking up their largest lead of three points at 13-10. The teams battled back and forth tying the set at 25-25. However, the Avenging Angels won the next two points for the set win. Meredith opened the third set with a 4-0 lead, an advantage the Maroons were unable to overtake, falling 25-20 in the final set.
The Maroons were led in kills by
Sarah Long and
Brooke Bostwick, who each finished with nine kills apiece.
Macey Tyree followed suit with seven kills of her own.
Jessica Block topped the squad by dishing out 16 assists, while
Alexandra Martin was close behind with 15 assists.
Ryan Hedgepeth picked up 11 digs for the Maroons during the contest. Long, Bostwick and
Allison White each tallied two block assists.
Meredith's Karlie Long led all players in kills with 19, while Emily Hendricks also finished in double-digits with 10. Hannah Blaylock dished out 30 assists over the three games, to lead all players. Emery McGee tied
Ryan Hedgepeth in digs, tallying 11 over the course of the match. Jasmine Aguinaldo finished with four block assists, while Anna Huff had two solo blocks.
The Maroons return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Thursday, October 2
nd as they face Emory & Henry College on the road. That contest is scheduled for 6:30 PM start.
