Men's Soccer Tops Randolph-Macon 1-0 on Senior Night

Box Score SALEM – The Roanoke College men's soccer team was victorious on Friday evening, defeating Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent, Randolph-Macon by the score of 1-0.  The Maroons now have a record of 6-2-1, 3-0 in ODAC play, while the Yellow Jackets are 2-6, 0-3 in the ODAC.
 
Before the game, the Maroons celebrated senior night for five players on the Roanoke squad.  Roanoke's senior class includes Marc Dinkel, Garrett Eldridge, Chris Fisher, Ethan Gunter and Nicholas Staufenberger.  Over the last four years, the Maroons have put together a record of 35-17-4, with a 21-8-3 mark in ODAC play.  Members of this graduating class were a part of the 2012 team who won the program's first ODAC championship since 2007.
 
The Maroons scored early in the first half, as Marc Dinkel netted his sixth goal of the season.  Dinkel brought the ball across the front of the box and buried a shot into the left side of the goal for the 1-0 lead.  Roanoke outshot Randolph-Macon 8-2 in the first half, with Dinkel and Fortune Sibanda each taking two shots during the period.
 
During the second half, Roanoke continued to outshoot the Yellow Jackets, this time 10-7.  However, neither team found the back of the net, with Roanoke picking up the 1-0 ODAC victory.
 
Roanoke finished with 18 shots on the night with Cole Thornton leading the team with four.  He was followed by Marc Dinkel and Fortune Sibanda, who took three shots each.  Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes in net, tallying six saves during the win.
 
Randolph-Macon finished with nine shots, led by Sam Bowen who finished with three shots.  CJ Montalbano played for 71 mintues and tallied three saves in the game.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 1st as they travel to take on Bridgewater College.  That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
