Men's Soccer Falls to #22 Salisbury University on Wednesday

Box Score LARGO, MD – The Roanoke College men's soccer team fell in non-conference action to #22 ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday afternoon, 3-1.  The Maroons now have a record of 5-2-1, while the Seagulls are 6-0-2.
 
Salisbury scored two goals in the first half.  The first came at 6:43 as Chris Kittelberger scored off of a goal line pass from Benjamin Aryeetey, putting the Seagulls ahead 1-0, early.   Aryeetey scored his own goal at 20:52, unassisted, bending the shot from the right side of the field to the left corner of the goal.  Salisbury's 2-0 lead held through the end of the first half.
 
Salisbury's Aryeetey scored his second of the game at 55:40, this time assisted by Tanner East.  East took a shot that was deflected by Roanoke's Cole Sinclair, but rebounded by Aryeetey for the 3-0 Seagull lead.  Roanoke's lone goal of the contest came in the 80th minute of the game.  Orestis Ilias took a shot at goal which was knocked away by Salisbury's keeper, but Marc Dinkel was there to swoop in and head the ball into the back of the net.  Neither team would score for the remainder of the contest with Salisbury picking up the 3-1 non-conference victory.
 
The Maroons led the Seagulls in shots 21-15, with Jackson Goyette leading the team with four shots.  He was followed by Robby Lentine, Brandon Bauer, and Orestis Ilias with three shots apiece.  Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied four saves.
 
Chris Kittelberger, Benjamin Aryeetey and Tanner East each led the Seaguls with four shots apiece in the contest.  Three other players each finished with one shot during the game.  The goalkeeper, Drew Staedeli played the complete game with four saves.
 
Roanoke led in shots, but trailed in shots on goal 7-5.  Roanoke held Salisbury without a corner kick, while the Maroons took five of their own.
 
The Maroons return to action on Friday, September 26th as they play host to Randolph-Macon College.  That contest, which also serves as Senior Night, will have a 7:00 PM start time.
