SALEM – The Roanoke College volleyball team split a pair of matches in the second day of the 2014 Maroon Classic. The Maroons fell 3-2 (25-14, 22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 12-15) to Meredith, while defeating Mary Baldwin College 3-0 (25-5, 25-13, 25-15). The Maroons now have a record of 10-2 on the 2014 season.
Roanoke has shined early in the season in Invitational/Classic play. The Maroons went 4-0 in the Averett Invitational, while going 3-1 in the Washington & Lee Invitational and Maroon Classic. In the first 12 matches of the season, the Maroons have won eight of those by the score of 3-0. Roanoke's two losses so far this season have come in tight 3-2 decisions, both with scores of 15-12 in the fifth and deciding set.
The Maroons fell in a tough five set battle to Meredith to open the second day of the 2014 Maroon Classic. Roanoke lost 3-2 to the Avenging Angels: 25-14, 22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 12-15.
Macey Tyree led the Maroons in kills with 14, while also leading the team in digs with 19. Two other Maroons finished in double-digit kills, with
Allison White putting away 11, and
Brooke Bostwick finishing off 10.
Jessica Block dished out 29 assists, followed by
Alexandra Martin who tallied 19 in the contest.
Christen Zammit finished with 17 digs, while
Jessica Block and
Allison White notched 13 and 12, respectively.
Roanoke rolled in the second match over Mary Baldwin, winning 3-0 in the afternoon.
Kylah Blackmore led the team with eight kills, while Tyree and Bostwick each tallied six.
Kayleigh Littleson topped the team in assists with 14, followed by Block with nine. Tyree and Martin each led the team with five digs, with Littleson trailing with four.
Allison White put away three service aces, while Block, Michaela Malboeuf and Martin notched two.

The Maroons return to action on Monday, September 15
th as they travel to take on Ferrum College. That contest is scheduled for a 6:30 PM start.
