Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SALEM – The Roanoke College volleyball team went 2-0 in the first day of the 2014 Maroon Invitational, defeating Methodist (3-0; 25-18, 25-11, 25-13) and Ferrum (3-0; 25-18, 25-17, 25-14).  The Maroons now have a record of 9-1 to start the season.
 
With the Maroons 9-1 record in the first 10 matches of the season, the Maroons bolster the best 10 match record since 2008, where the squad went 9-1 to begin the year.  This is the third consecutive tournament for the Maroons where they have gone 2-0 on the first day.  In six first day tournament matches, the Maroons have only given up one game.
 
The Maroons won the first match of the night against Methodist in three sets (25-18, 25-11, 25-13).  Allison White led the team in kills with eight, while finishing second on the team in digs with eight.  She also had one solo block, and two block assists.  Jessica Block topped the squad in assists with 14, followed by Alexandra Martin with six.  Block and Martin also had a team-high five service aces.  Ryan Hedgepeth notched nine digs in the victory.
 
Roanoke defeated Ferrum College in the second match of the evening, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14).  The Maroons were led in kills again by White, who tallied 10 kills in the match, going along with three service aces and nine digs.  Jessica Block and Christen Zammit led the Maroons in digs with 11 apiece.  Block also dished out a team high eight assists, along with Alexandra Martin with eight of her own.  Block, however, led the team on her own in service aces, putting away five in the contest.  Logan Graves tallied six block assists on the evening as well.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, September 13^th as they participate in the second day of the Maroon Classic.  They will face Meredith College at 11:00 AM, then go on to face Mary Baldwin College at 3:00 PM.
