Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DANVILLE – The Roanoke College volleyball team swept both matches on Sunday to win the Averett Invitational.  En route to the victory, the Maroons defeated Greensboro 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-15) and Methodist 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-14).  Roanoke starts the season with a record of 4-0.

Roanoke's 4-0 start to the season is the program's best start since 2008, where the Maroons began the season on a 10 game win streak.  In the Averett Invitational, Allison White was named MVP of the Tournament, while Christen Zammit was named to the All-Tournament Team.

In the first match of the day, Roanoke defeated Methodist 3-0.  Jessica Block led the team with 23 assists, followed by Alexandra Martin who finished with 13 assists.  Allison White topped the squad in digs with 11, while Brooke Bostwick and Macey Tyree each tallied 10 apiece.  White was also the team leader in kills putting away 16 on the afternoon.  Methodist's Cassidy Hayes had 10 kills, and was the only other player in the match with double-digit kills.  Methodist's Maggie Harris also finished with 20 assist, second most of anyone on the court in the match.

Roanoke topped Greensboro in the second match of the day, 3-0, and completed the tournament sweep for the Maroons.  Block continued to lead the team in assists, this game dishing 11 over the three games.  Macey Tyree was the team leader in digs, pulling out 12 in the contest.  Block and Christen Zammit finished the game with 11 digs apiece.  Brooke Bostwick finished with 11 kills on 20 attacks, going along with her two service aces.  Zammit led the Maroons with three aces to her credit.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, September 5^th as they play in the Washington and Lee Invitational, facing off against Marietta College and Maryville College at 2:30 and 5:00 PM respectively.
