Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DANVILLE – The Roanoke College volleyball team opened the 2014 season with a pair of wins in the first day of the Averett Invitational on Saturday.  The Maroons defeated Central College, 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18) in the first game, then topped William Peace 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 28-26) in the second game.

Roanoke's with two wins to start the year, the Maroons started the season with a record of 2-0 for the first time since 2008.  The Maroons first opponent of the day, Central College, has won three NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships in the program's history.

In the match against Central, Jessica Block led the team with 20 assists, while notching 18 digs and four aces.  Christen Zammit topped the team with 20 digs.  Alexandra Martin tallied 12 assists with eight digs.  Allison White pulled up 12 digs while putting away 11 kills.  Sarah Long followed with seven kills, while Macey Tyree finished with six.  Brooke Bostwick led the team with three blocks alongside four kills.

Against William Peace, Block ranked second on team in assists with 15, going along with 10 digs.  Martin topped the squad with 16 assists, adding seven digs.  White finished the game with 11 digs and nine kills, while Long blocked three shots.  Long also was credited with six kills.  Bostwick and Tyree each tallied seven kills and seven digs apiece.

The Maroons return to action on Sunday afternoon as they play in the final two games of the Averett Invitational.  Roanoke takes on Central Methodist at 3:00 PM, followed by a match against Greensboro College at 5:00 PM.
