The Roanoke College men's basketball team will be hosting the 2014 Dick Leftwich V-Foundation Classic. In the 20
th Annual event, the Bast Center will be the location for four NCAA Division III basketball games over November 21
st and 22
nd. Roanoke will play host to Southern Virginia, Capital (OH) and Methodist. All teams enter the tournament with a record of 1-1.
Come Celebrate Page Moir's 400th Career Win With Us!Before the Roanoke/Southern Virginia basketball game at 7:00 PM on Friday night, Roanoke College will recognize Maroons' head coach Page Moir for his milestone 400
th career victory, which he achieved this past Sunday.
Moir is the winningest coach in the Roanoke College history and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference as well. He entered the season with an all-time record of 399-271, with a 247-187 record in ODAC play. Moir will reach another milestone after three wins in the ODAC this season, picking up his 250th career ODAC victory. Moir is now the 34th active coach to reach 400 wins in the NCAA Division III ranks, as he is tied with Terry Butterfield of Texas Dallas (won #400 on Saturday), and Anthony Petosa of Staten Island, who ended the 2013-14 season with 400 wins.
Roanoke Senior Also Nearing Career MilestoneDaniel Eacho is looking to become the 32
nd player in Roanoke College history to move into the 1,000 point club. Eacho started the season 71 points shy of the mark, and has scored 21 points in the first two games of the season. With just 50 points to go, Eacho could secure entry into the 1,000 point club over the next handful of games. Be sure to come out and cheer the Senior on to the milestone accomplishment.
Early Team LeadersSophomore
John Fitchett is currently leading the team in scoring after two games, netting 15.0 points per contest. He tallied 21 points in the win over Brockport on Sunday, hitting seven baskets from the field, including three from behind the arc. Senior
Andrew Daniels is also averaging in the double-digits in scoring, tallying 12.5 points per game. Eacho is third on the squad with 10.5 points per game. Eacho also holds the distinction of being the top rebounder for the Maroons, pulling down 6.0 rebounds a game.
Cameron Smith and
Julian Ramirez are right behind Eacho in the category with 5.5 and 5.0 rebounds per game, respectively. Freshman
Joey Miller leads the team in assists with eight in two games, which ranks fifth in the ODAC. Daniels sits with five steals, ranking fourth in the conference in the category.
About Friday's Opponent – Southern VirginiaSouthern Virginia is just two days removed from traveling to Provo, Utah to take on Division I opponent, Brigham Young University. The Knights fell in the contest 101-48. However, SVU holds a 1-1 record after taking Emory & Henry to a 110-101 triple overtime battle.
The Knights are led by Preston Eaton, who is averaging 23 points in the first two games of the season. Eaton scored 35 points in the triple overtime contest against Emory & Henry, as well as still putting 11 points up on BYU. David Baety is second on the squad in scoring, tallying 8.0 points per game. Eaton also leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 7.0 rebounds per game. Wesley Evans and Kaleio Manuela each have 5.5 rebounds per contest as well.
