Volleyball Wins Sixth Straight, Defeats Bridgewater 3-1

Box Score BRIDGEWATER – The Roanoke College volleyball team defeated Bridgewater College 3-1 (26-28, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18) on Saturday afternoon in ODAC play.  The Maroons now have a record of 19-7, 6-3 in the ODAC, while the Eagles sit with a mark of 8-19, 4-6 in ODAC play.
 
The Maroons have matched their longest win streak of the season, having won the last six matches in a row.  Roanoke started off the season with a record of 6-0, including a 4-0 sweep of the Averett Invitational.  Roanoke, now with 19 wins, has three matches remaining on the regular season schedule to pick up its 20th win, a mark that the Maroons have reached five times before.
 
The top eight teams in the ODAC reach the conference tournament, which begins on November 5th.  The Maroons currently sit in fifth place with two matches left and a 6-3 conference record.  One of the teams ahead of Roanoke on the table is Virginia Wesleyan, who is 8-2, sitting third in the ODAC.  The Maroons will meet Virginia Wesleyan on November 1st.
 
The Maroons finished with 58 kills to Bridgewater's 42.  Sarah Long led Roanoke with 15 kills, while Brooke Bostwick was narrowly behind her with 14.  Also in double-digit kills was Macey Tyree, who put away 11 on the afternoon.  Roanoke also led in the assists category, 46-39.  Jessica Block contributed 27 assists to the total, while Alexandra Martin dished out 15.  Four Maroons had 10 or more digs in the match: Ryan Hedgepeth (19), Olivia Earls (13), Tyree (10), Block (10).  Bostwick also finished the game with four solo blocks, along with two block assists.
 
Bridgewater's Megann Grimes led the Eagles with 14 kills, while Abby Mills tallied 10.  Shannon Skellchock led all players finishing with 37 of Bridgewater's 39 assists in the match.  Nikki Snider finished the match with 19 digs, while Mills had 14.  Skellchock notched 12 digs, along with Chelsea Owensby with 11.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 29th as they travel to Greensboro, NC to take on Guilford College.  That contest is scheduled for a 6:30 PM start.
