Maroons Fall to #6 Ranked Lynchburg College, 2-0 on Friday

Box Score SALEM – The Roanoke College women's soccer team ran up against a tough challenge in #6 Lynchburg College on Friday evening, falling 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup.  The Maroons are now 7-6, 3-4 in the ODAC, while the Hornets maintain a perfect 13-0, 8-0 mark in ODAC play.

This is the second time that the Maroons have had to face a top-10 ranked team this season.  The Maroons took on #5 ranked Johns Hopkins during the Roanoke Invitational earlier this year, and now #6 Lynchburg on Friday night.

Lynchburg's first goal came at 19:20 as Angela Bosco sent a through pass to Jade Woll, who fired her shot off the inside left post, which caromed into the right portion of the net.  Lynchburg's 1-0 lead would hold through the second half, up until the 66th minute, when the Hornets scored again.  Bosco, this time in a solo effort, took a shot which  landed in the left side of the goal for a Lynchburg 2-0 advantage.

The Maroons had an opportunity to score in the second half as Nathalie Torres found herself one-on-one with the keeper.  However, Torres' shot fell right in the hands of Frelick, keeping Lynchburg ahead 2-0.  Lynchburg's Dessi Dupui also had an opportunity to score, but ricocheted a shot off the post, and Roanoke's defense did a stellar job of clearing the ball from the box.

The Maroons got off just three shots during the game, with two attempts coming from Abbe Guarino.  The other shot was the aforementioned try from Nathalie Torries.  All three of Roanoke's shots were on goal.  Carolyn Sarbacher played 73 minute in goal, tallying seven saves in the process.  Sarah Dvorak played the remaining 17 minutes, making two saves of her own.

Lynchburg was led in shots by both Angela Bosco and Dessi Dupui, who took seven shots in the game, with five of Bosco's attempts being on goal.  Jade Woll, Marina Clark and Kelly Smith finished with two shots each.  Tess Frelick played all 90 minutes in net, tallying three saves.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 15th to face off against ODAC opponent Sweet Briar College.  That game is slated for a 4:15 kickoff.
