GREENSBORO, NC – For the second consecutive year, the Roanoke College volleyball team won the Greensboro Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, defeating the four teams they faced in the tournament. On Sunday, the Maroons defeated host school Greensboro 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-21, 25-20) as well as Guilford 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16). The Maroons exit the tournament with a record of 6-3.
The Maroons encountered a weekend of outstanding accomplishments. The Maroons won the Greensboro Invitational, a feat they accomplished in 2012 as well.
Mackenzie Tyree was named tournament MVP, while
Samantha Klostermann was named to the All-Tournament team. Head Coach Blair Trail also earned her 250
th win in the Maroons first game of the tournament, and now sits with 253 after the invitational. The Maroons enter ODAC Tournament play on Tuesday, fueled by a five match win streak.
Against Greensboro, Roanoke defeated the host school 3-1.
Macey Tyree led the team with 17 kills and pulled up 19 digs.
Samantha Klostermann added 12 kills and 2 aces, as well as 16 digs.
Mackenzie Tyree finished the match with a team high 20 digs.
In the final match of the tournament, Roanoke defeated Guilford 3-1, in what is not considered a conference matchup.
Samantha Klostermann had 24 kills and 16 digs.
Macey Tyree added in with 13 kills and 24 digs.
Alexandra Martin tallied 12 assists and 10 digs.
Mackenzie Allen dished out 15 assists in the match.
The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, September 10
th as they open up Old Dominion Athletic Conference action against Shenandoah University. That contest, held in Winchester, VA, will start at 7:00 PM.
