LEXINGTON – The Roanoke College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Washington and Lee in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Tuesday evening. The Maroons now have a record of 2-5-1 and are 0-2 in ODAC play, while the Generals sit with a mark of 7-1; 3-0 in the ODAC.
The two teams battled back and forth to a stalemate in the first half, while Washington and Lee took 10 shots to Roanoke's four. In the second half, the Maroons outshot the Generals 7-4, but W&L was able to find the back of the net once, as Holley Beasley scored the unassisted game winner in the 62
nd minute.
The Maroons finished the contest with 11 shots.
Marlana Barnard led the team with six shots, followed by
Ashley Barnes with two.
Nathalie Torres,
Lauren O'Brien and
Courtney Yoke finished the evening with one shot each.
Carolyn Sarbacher played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied five saves.
The Maroons were narrowly outshot by the Generals, 14-11. Washington and Lee also held the advantage in corner kicks 4-1.
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, September 28 as they play host to Shenandoah University. That contest is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start.
