SALEM – The Roanoke College volleyball team picked up another ODAC win on Saturday after defeating Eastern Mennonite 3-1 (25-12, 25-22, 24-26, 26-24). The Maroons now have a record of 8-4; 2-1 in the ODAC, while the Royals now sit at 6-6-, 2-1 in the ODAC.
While the all-time record between Roanoke and Eastern Mennonite sits at 31-16, in favor of the Royals, Roanoke has won the last 12 meetings between the two teams.
The Maroons quickly won the first game 25-12. The second game gave the Maroons a little trouble as Roanoke and Eastern Mennonite traded leads to the point where the Royals led 18-17 in the match. The Maroons rattled off three straight points to reclaim the lead, 20-18. Roanoke built the lead to three off of a kill by
Samantha Klostermann, then finished it off with a point from
Mackenzie Allen.
Eastern Mennonite built a 18-12 lead over the Maroons in the third game. Roanoke fought back and won eight straight points behind the serve of
Macey Tyree, the last one being an ace to take a 20-18 lead. The teams fought back and forth but the Royals won the final four points of the game to win 26-24. The Maroons found themselves in a similar situation in the fourth set, trailing by as many as six points. The Royals sat on game point at 24-18, but behind the serve of
Macey Tyree again, the Maroons scored eight straight points to take the game 26-24, as well as the match 3-1.
Samantha Klostermann led the Maroons in total kills with 17, and was followed by
Macey Tyree with 11.
Alexandra Martin finished the game with a team high 26 assists, while
Jessica Block had 18. The Trio of
Mackenzie Tyree,
Macey Tyree and Klosterman had 16, 15 and 12 digs, respectively.
Macey Tyree who served well for the Maroons, finished the game with eight service aces.
Carrie Heldreth finished the game with six total blocks.
The volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday, September 17
th as they play host to Randolph-Macon College. That night will also sever as a Pack The House event for the Volleyball team, so be sure to come out and "Pack the House!" That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
