Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 to Christopher Newport on Saturday

Box Score SALEM – The Roanoke College women's soccer team fell in non-conference action to Christopher Newport University on Saturday Afternoon, 2-0. The Maroons now have a record of 2-2-1, while the Captains have a mark of 4-1-1.

With the loss today, Roanoke holds an all time series record of 5-5 against Christopher Newport. Roanoke's last win over the Captains came in 2011 with a 2-1 victory.

Neither team could jump on the board in the first half, as Roanoke had many opportunities to do so. The Maroons fired off seven shots in the first half, but none of them found the back of the net.

With just 3:39 elapsed from the clock in the second half, Christopher Newport's Emma O'Reilly came off of a breakaway pass from Kelsey Thomas to find the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Captains capped on another goal in the 71st minute as Lindsay Mondloch sailed a corner kick into the box where it was headed on by Sam Rabinek for the 2-0 lead. CNU would hold that advantage for the remainder of the game and pick up the non-conference win.

Christopher Newport led in shots 15-10, with Roanoke holding a 7-5 lead in the first half. The Captains also held the edge in corner kicks 4-2.

Roanoke was led in shots by Ashley Barnes, Kaitlyn Manning and Marlana Barnard who all had three. Barnes' and Manning's shots were also both on goal. Carolyn Sarbacher played all 90 minutes in goal, tallying five saves on the evening.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, September 20th as they travel to take on Lynchburg College. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
