CARLISLE, PA - The #17 ranked Roanoke College men's lacrosse team fell to #4 ranked Dickinson College, 15-5 on Saturday. The Maroons now have a record of 1-2, while the Red Devils are 5-0.
Dickinson got off to an early lead on Roanoke, scoring two goals in the first period. Brian Cannon and Brett Parker scored the first quarter goals for the Red Devils. The Maroons got the first goal in the second quarter as
Conner DuBois scored an unassisted goal to bring Roanoke within one, 2-1 with 12:16 to play in the first half. It was at that point that Dickinson went on a 7-0 scoring run, that included four goals from Cannon. With 2:38 to play the Red Devils had built a 9-1 lead. With 46 seconds left in the half, DuBois scored his second goal of the game, to bring Roanoke back within seven, 9-2.
DuBois converted a man-up goal at the 7:16 mark in the third period off a pass from
Mike Hayden, scoring the Maroons' third goal. After the Red Devils scored another goal,
Will Pilat tallied his second career goal off a pass from Hayden to pull within 6, 10-4. Through the 6:21 mark in the fourth quarter, Dickinson had built a lead of 13-4, until
Richard Lachlan scored an unassisted goal of his own. Through the end of the game, the Red Devils scored one more goal, as Dickinson would win the contest, 15-5.
Connor DuBois led the Maroons in scoring with three goals.
Richard Lachlan and
Will Pilat had the other two goals for Roanoke on the afternoon. The two lone assists on the day came from
Mike Hayden.
Charles Pease played all 60 minutes in goal, tallied 17 saves and had a team high four ground balls.
For the Red Devils, Brian Cannon led the squad in scoring, tallying five goals. He was followed by Brian Gleason who finished with three. Brett Parker finished with a team-high three assists. Greg Hanley played all 60 minutes in goal and finished with 12 saves.
Roanoke converted one of seven extra-man opportunities, while Dickinson only completed two of their five man-up attacks. The Red Devils also led in ground balls (43-21), shots (49-36), and face-offs (15-8). Roanoke led in clears by the mark of 32-25.
The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, March 12
th, as they play host to The College of Wooster. That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
