SALEM - The #20 ranked Roanoke College men's lacrosse team fell on Sunday to #7 Salisbury University, 17-5. The Maroons now have a record of 3-3, while the Seagulls are 7-2.
Roanoke got the jump early on Salisbury, as
Kyle Smith netted an unassisted goal, just a minute into the game to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead. Salisbury then went on a 5-0 run in the first half, that saw four different Seagulls find the back of the net. Stephen Norris scored back to back goals inside the four minute mark, assisted by Brett Baer and Chris Blank. After the first quarter, Salisbury held a 5-1 lead.
Salisbury held Roanoke scoreless in the second quarter, as five different players scored. Rhett DePol netted his second goal of the game at the 7:01 mark. Entering halftime, Roanoke trailed 10-1 to the #7 team in the nation. DePol opened the second half with two more goals. Through the 1:42 mark in the second half, Salisbury had a 14-1 lead. The Maroons started to gain momentum in with a minute to play in the third as Roanoke scored two goals before the end of the period.

Tyler McWilliams.
Mike Hayden then scored with 24 seconds on the clock, assisted by
Spencer Parsons.
The Maroons scored two more goals before the end of the contest with Hayden netting a man-up goal at the 7:34 point.
Nick Wolf scored a man-down goal off a pass from
Richard Lachlan for the final goal of the game, as #20 Roanoke fell 17-5 to #7 Salisbury.
Hayden led the Maroons with two goals, followed by Pilat, Wolf and Smith.
John Rayburn led the Maroons with 12 ground balls, stemming from his time working face-offs.
Charles Pease played all 60 minutes between the pipes for Roanoke, tallying 14 saves.
The Seagulls were led in scoring by Rhett DePol and Stephen Norris, who had four goals each, while Wade Korvin had three. Greg Korvin led the squad in assists, tallying three. Alex Taylor played 57 minutes in goal during the contest, making five saves on nine shots faced.
Roanoke led in ground balls (31-28) and faceoffs (14-11), while Salisbury had the advantage in clears (18-13) and shots taken (54-27).
The Maroons return to action on Thursday, March 21
st as they host Whittier College at Kerr Stadium. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
