LYNCHBURG – The Roanoke College volleyball team defeated Randolph College, 3-1 (28-30; 25-16; 25-15; 25-15)on Friday evening in the Maroons Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season finale. The Maroons enter ODAC Tournament play with a record of 18-10, 7-4 in the conference, while the WildCats finish with a mark of 11-11, 2-9 in the ODAC.
The Maroons are tied with both Lynchburg and Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC play with seven wins and four losses. While the Maroons have the best overall record, seeding will come down to head to head matchups, where the Maroons will be projected for a five seed, after falling to Lynchburg (3-1) and Virginia Wesleyan (3-2).
In the game this evening, Randolph bested the Maroons in the first set 30-28, but the Maroons quickly turned things around in the second set. The Maroons won the second set 25-16, then won back-to-back sets by the score of 25-15.
Mackenzie Tyree led the Maroons in kills with 16, going along with her 12 digs.
Jessica Block dished out a match high 39 assists, going along with her team high four service aces and 13 digs.
Samantha Klostermann led the team in digs with 18, as well as having 15 kills.
Sarah Long was also in double digit kills, putting away 15.
Alexandra Martin ended the night with 15 assists, while also pulling up 14 digs.
The Maroons will return to action in the Quarterfinals of the ODAC Volleyball Championships. The Maroons, who finish the regular season with a record of 7-4, must wait until all games are played to find out where they will play on Wednesday, November 6
th.
