LEXINGTON – The Roanoke College volleyball team fell to Washington and Lee University on Wednesday evening, 3-0. The Maroons now have a record of 15-8; 5-3 in the ODAC, while the Generals sit with a mark of 18-5; 7-0 ODAC.
The Generals won the match over the Maroons in three sets (25-15; 25-23; 25-17). Roanoke gave Washington and Lee a run in both the second and third sets. In the second game, Roanoke tied the match at 11-11. The Maroons kept the game within four points until they trailed 19-15, where the Maroons rallied to take a 21-20 advantage. The Maroons earned points off two
Carrie Heldreth kills, tying the game at 23-23. However, Washington and Lee won the next two points to win the set 25-23.
Roanoke and Washington and Lee stayed locked in the third set through a score of 7-7. At which point, the Maroons picked up four kills, three from
Allison White and one from
Sarah Long, taking a 10-7 lead. The Generals won the next five points to reclaim a 12-10 lead. Washington and Lee maintained their lead through the remainder of the set, winning game three by the score of 25-17.
Macey Tyree and
Carrie Heldreth led the Maroons with six kills each, followed by
Samantha Klostermann and
Allison White who had four kills each.
Jessica Block tallied a team high 15 assists, while
Alexandra Martin finished with nine.
Mackenzie Tyree led the squad with 13 digs.
The Maroons return to action on Friday, October 18
th as they take on Lynchburg College. That contest is scheduled for a 6:30 PM start.
