SALEM - The Roanoke College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Maroons now hold a record of 6-3-1, 4-1 ODAC, while the Eagles rise to 7-3-1, 4-1-1 in ODAC play. Today's loss to Bridgewater marks the first time the Eagles have gotten the best of the Maroons, as the all-time series record now sits at 14-1-1.
Both teams played a defensively sound game through the first 64 minutes of the contest, as neither team had found the back of the net. But at 64:31, Bridgewater's Melanie Waters was awarded a penalty kick, which she successfully converted and gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. With 10 minutes to play, Waters found herself on a breakaway, and slipped one past the keeper to give Bridgewater a 2-0 advantage. The Eagles held the two goal lead for the remainder of the contest to defeat the Maroons.
Roanoke held the edge in shots 10-6, while Bridgewater was awarded more corner kicks (4-1).
Rebekah Adams led the Maroons in shots with three while
Carmen Graves and
Lauren O'Brien had two each.
Carolyn Sarbacher played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied four saves.
Before the game, the Roanoke College recognized the careers of eight seniors that have played for the Maroons over the last four years. The players recognized were:

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 3
rd as they play host to the Generals of Washington and Lee in ODAC action. The contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
