VIRGINIA BEACH - A last-minute header goal by
Tyler Carbaugh propelled the Roanoke College men's soccer team past Virginia Wesleyan, 3-2 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Friday evening.
The Maroons raise their record to 3-3, 1-1 ODAC, while the Marlins are now 2-5-1, and 1-2 in ODAC play. Roanoke is now 18-22-2 against Va. Wesleyan. The last time these two teams met was in the ODAC quarterfinals where the Marlins bested the Maroons 2-0 at Kerr Stadium.
Roanoke opened up the scoring early in the contest as
Patrick Bain found the back of the net just five minutes in. But Va. Wesleyan's Josh Kemp tied the game back up at 1-1 with a shot from about 20 yards out. Neither team would score for the remainder of the half.
Bryan White regained the lead for Roanoke just a minute and a half into the second period. Kemp would score his second goal for VWC at the 60-minute mark off a pass from Brian Cornell to tie the game at two. Both teams had a hard time scoring over the next 25 minutes, until
Carl Leist crossed one into the box for
Tyler Carbaugh score off a header, to claim the game for the Maroons, 3-2.
Roanoke narrowly outshot the Virginia Wesleyan 13 to 12, but the Marlins held the margin in corner kicks 3-4.

Tyler Carbaugh finished the game with two shots, while five other Maroons had one each.
Roanoke returns to action on Tuesday, September 25
th as they play host to Guilford College at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. The contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
